She joins the group, harrying German reinforcements for the Normandy front where she remains until captured by the Germans and is handed over to the Gestapo. A cruel and prolonged interrogation fails to make her betray her comrades, and she is deported to Germany. The horror and squalor of Ravensbruck concentration camp fails to break Violette’s spirit even when she learns that she is to be executed by firing squad for espionage.
