Friday 12th October 7.30 pm Film Club meets once a month in the Parish Hall and the next film will be ‘The Butler’ which is set against the tumultuous political backdrop of 20th century America and tells the story of White House butler Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker), who serves for seven presidential administrations between 1957 and 1986. It is based on a Washington Post article “A Butler well served by this election” which told the real life story of former White House Butler Eugene Allen. It covers the changing tides of American politics and race relations: from the assassinations of John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King to the war in Vietnam and the Watergate scandal. Cecil experiences these events both as an insider and a family man.
